The Iceberg Inn

The Iceberg Inn

You might’ve noticed I’ve been posting a lot lately about a place called The Iceberg Inn. Maybe you’re thinking, “Wow, Mountain Men of Alaska must be sponsored now. She’s really selling out.”

But let me give you a little backstory on how we ended up there for a photoshoot.
My friend Mike owns a company out of Seward called Marathon Helicopters. Recently, he and his friend Kat decided to open this beautiful little spot tucked out by Bear Glacier. They’ve been pouring a ton of elbow grease into getting it ready, and when I asked if I could use it for a shoot, the timing worked out perfectly. Mike flew me, my model, and his girlfriend out for the shoot, while he kept working on getting the place ready for its grand opening.
It’s set right next to Bear Glacier Lagoon truly one of the most magical places on earth. Think icebergs the size of houses drifting by, with the full glacier towering behind them… and getting flown into that dreamworld by helicopter, with unreal views along the way.
Now, let me tell you a little something about the kind of guy who owns that helicopter company and co-owns The Iceberg Inn.
Six years ago, I was pregnant and staring down the overwhelming road of single motherhood. I was alone and incredibly depressed. A local photographer, friend, and fellow mom could tell I was struggling and offered to take some maternity photos for me. I asked Mike if there was any chance we could do it out at Bear Glacier, and he said yes without hesitation.
As I started to crawl out of that depression, thanks to the kindness of people like Kally (the photographer), Mike and some solid meds, I asked Mike if he’d pose for some awkward maternity photos with me. And he did. Poor guy. I’m pretty sure there are still folks who think he’s the father of my amazing daughter.
I’ll never be able to repay Mike for what he did for me during the hardest part of my life. His kindness was priceless. But I can hype his businesses and the stunning places he’s helped create.
So if nothing else, go for a helicopter ride with this man and see Alaska from above. And if you get the chance, book a night at The Iceberg Inn. It’s straight out of a dream.
Thanks, Mike.
